| Outdoor Education - Living History Apple Cidering
Students learn about apples and how they grow, tree identification, blending and the process of making actual apple cider using Camp Bernie's cider press. Fall is the optimal season for this class as this is the traditional time for apple picking; however, different stages of fruit development will be discussed during other seasons, F,W,S. 1 1/2 hours, Camp Bernie or school staff;
Cemetery Study
A hike back in time to the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery where students become detectives and picture life in the 1880's by a Ghost Hunt of cemetery residents gathering clues to local lore. May be combined with a hike to Pt. Mountain. 1 1/2 hours Camp Bernie or school staff, F,W,S.
Maple Sugaring
During this late winter activity students are instructed on the art and science of converting sap to syrup which includes winter tree identification, tree "anatomy," and the history of maple sugaring. 1 1/2 hours, Camp Bernie or school staff, Mid Feb.- Mid March.
Nature Arts and Crafts
Arts programs can include crafts from the Pioneer era, the Native American or foreign culture, or those which help to recognize and appreciate the beauty in nature. Good indoor activity. 1 1/2 hours, Camp Bernie or school staff F,W,S.
Wilderness Survival
This activity teaches students how to prevent and handle wilderness emergencies.
Shelter construction, warmth retention, fire building, rescue actions, food and
water collection are some activities which are covered. This is all completed
